Crowns are necessary when there is weak tooth structure, when a tooth has been broken, or when a root canal has been completed. Crowns restore the normal shape, size, and colour of the tooth improving its appearance. Because a crown covers the entire tooth, it significantly decreases the risk of fracture. It protects what remains of the natural tooth.
