Nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas is a clear, colorless, and odorless gas that can be used during dental treatment to reduce anxiety. It is the safest mode of minimal sedation and the onset of this gas is 1-2 minutes after inhalation. This mode of minimal sedation is extremely safe for both adults and children and is especially convenient because it only takes a few minutes of breathing oxygen to eliminate the nitrous oxide from your system and return to “normal”. This allows patients to drive home after the appointment. If you are interested in this form of anxiety control, speak to us to see if you would be a good candidate.
